Toyota provides two engines for the 2020 Toyota Avalon: One is gas-powered and the other is an available hybrid. The standardly equipped 3.5-liter V6 DOHC engine generates up to 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. This should be more than enough oomph to cruise in the left lane or fly down winding backroads.

However, you can expect an efficient driving experience, in part thanks to the Toyota Direct Shift 8-speed Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i). There’s no need to mind the fuel stations in the rearview with up to an EPA-estimated 22 city/32 highway/26 combined MPG.¹

As for the available 2.5-liter Dynamic Force 4-cylinder hybrid engine, it’s mated to an Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT). This setup produces up to 176 horsepower and 163 lb ft of torque while receiving up to an EPA-estimated 43 city/44 highway/44 combined MPG.¹

Additionally, both engines mentioned above come with selectable drive modes. The gas-powered 2020 Avalon has three modes: ECO, Normal, and Sport. With the hybrid trim, you’ll have all three as well as an electric-only EV mode.

Toyota Avalon Interior Comforts & Technology

There are a multitude of comfort-oriented features inside the cabin of the 2020 Toyota Avalon. Let’s start with the dual zone automatic climate control that will keep you and your passengers at a preferred temperature year-round. The system has an air filter and rear-seat vents to ensure everyone is cozy.

Some amenities that you won’t find on many other entry level trims include more refined seating materials and heated front seats. Luckily, the Avalon XLE comes standard with SofTex®-trimmed, heated, and 8-way adjustable front seats.

When it comes to technology in the cockpit, you can count on the 7-inch Multi-Information Display (MID) to keep you updated with driving metrics, such as average fuel economy and trip information.

A 9-inch infotainment touchscreen comes with the Toyota Avalon model’s native Audio Plus suite, which also features Apple CarPlay® and Amazon Alexa compatibility. And the touchscreen doubles as a monitor for an integrated backup camera with dynamic guidelines.

Toyota is known to make some of the safest vehicles on the market, and this sedan certainly hits the mark thanks to the Star Safety System™ and Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P).

Together, you’ll have a number of driver-assistive technologies on top of standard safety equipment. Part of the Star Safety System™ in the 2020 Avalon includes an Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), and Smart Stop Technology® (SST).

The driver-assistive TSS-P features a Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), to name a few.
