2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid Review
If you’re a driver near Leesburg, Apopka, or Mount Dora, FL, then you probably already know of the Toyota Sienna as a capable and versatile minivan that’s the king of the carpool lane. However, did you know that Toyota is releasing a hybrid powertrain for the 2021 model year?
Many drivers around Clermont and The Villages are excited about this new powertrain and have been asking us for a preview of it. So, that’s what we’re doing! The team at Phillips Toyota has put together this 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid preview to show you everything this van can offer.1
If you like what you read, give us a call and let us know. We’ll be sure to reach out and let you know when the Sienna Hybrid is on our lot and ready to test drive.
2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid Powertrain
We all know what you’re here for—the powertrain. So, let’s start there. The 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid will come with the following engine specs:
- 2.5L I-4 hybrid engine
- 243 total system horsepower
This will not be a plug-in hybrid. Instead, the Toyota Hybrid System II—along with regenerative braking—will charge the battery automatically while you drive. That means no stopping to charge while you’re out and no need to install a battery charger in your garage. The Sienna will take care of all that for you.
Now, how about that drivetrain? The Sienna continues to stand out in the hybrid minivan segment by offering available all-wheel drive (AWD). This available Electronic on-demand AWD system improves efficiency by using an electric motor to power the rear wheels instead of a heavy AWD transfer case.
Efficient Technologies
You’ll also be able to customize the kind of drive you have with the 2021 Sienna Hybrid, thanks to selectable drive modes, including:
- EV
- ECO
- SPORT
- NORMAL
Choose EV to operate in fully electric power, or switch into ECO for a more efficient hybrid drive. You can also select SPORT mode to enjoy a more active drive, while NORMAL is great for everyday cruising.
While its drive modes allow you to manually tailor your drive for the experience you want, the Sienna Hybrid will also do this automatically to help you save on fuel with Predictive Efficient Drive (PED).
PED analyzes your driving habits and the common routes you take. It can then predict when and where you’re likely to slow down or stop, and adjust the braking to help you reduce energy consumption. PED is especially helpful in hilly or congested areas.
Sienna Hybrid Safety Technology
If you’re driving a minivan like the Toyota Sienna Hybrid, then chances are that you’re transporting very precious cargo. The Sienna will be able to help you keep your family safe with its standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 (TSS 2.0) suite of safety technologies. This include such systems as:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection/Lowlight Detection
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Lane Trace Assist
It’s also expected to come with Automatic High Beams, which can help with nighttime driving. The Automatic High Beams actively monitor what’s up ahead. If they detect any oncoming vehicles or upcoming traffic lights, they’ll automatically turn your high beams off—and automatically toggle back on again once the other vehicle has passed.
