Toyota Sequoia: Off-Roading Capabilities

The 2022 Sequoia is one commendable SUV, and it’s mainly thanks to its standard 5.7L i-FORCE V8 engine that generates 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. This allows the Sequoia to achieve a maximum towing capacity of 7,400 pounds. That’s plenty of strength to haul fishing boats or even a small trailer.

There’s more, too, like the available Multi-Mode 4-Wheel Drive (4WD). With the turn of a dial, you can take your Toyota from 2WD to 4WD mode, taking advantage of the Torsen® 152 limited-slip center differential.

You can find this 4WD system as part of the Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro trim level, which includes a wide array of off-roading perks. A highlight is the TRD-tuned FOX® high-performance shocks and accompanying TRD-tuned springs which help you cross ruthless terrain.

The 2022 Sequoia Has a Place for Everything

When we say everything, we mean it. Seriously. There’s space for all kinds of gear in this SUV. Of course, you’ve got your usual cargo area—which we’ll cover in a moment—but did you know the Sequoia also includes a dual-level glove compartment?

That’s right! Use the upper level to store smaller items, like sunglasses or your wallet, while larger items are easily held down below.

As for that cargo area, you’ll find it rather suitable for sporting equipment, luggage, groceries, you name it. When the third row is folded down, you get 66.6 cubic feet of cargo volume. Bring the third row back upright, and you’ll find 18.9 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Here’s the best part: When you’ve got your hands full, simply press a button inside the cargo area or use the key fob to open the available automatic power liftgate.

Staying Protected With Toyota Safety Sense™ P

Last, but certainly not least, it’s time we discussed safety. If you’ve been a long-time fan of the Toyota brand, then you know how seriously they take safety. In the 2022 Sequoia, Toyota Safety Sense™ P comes standard, and it includes the following features listed below.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD): Through both a camera and radar, PCS w/PD will help detect vehicles or pedestrians in specific situations. If a possible collision is imminent, it will also send an audial and visual warning, and can even automatically apply the brakes if you don’t react.

Lane Departure Alert (LDA): LDA can detect visible lane markings at speeds above 32 MPH and will alert you if an unintentional lane change is detected, so you can get back on track.
