What Does an Oil Change Do? 

Oil changes are fairly straightforward. Our technicians remove old, dirty engine oil and replace it with clean oil. Depending on the type of vehicle you drive (sedan, SUV, pickup truck, etc.) we’ll use different oils that are geared toward that body style.

In almost all oil changes, synthetic oil is used. This kind of oil is chemically compounded to offer much better protection than conventional oil, which means your engine is less likely to overheat; it reduces engine drag, and helps you go longer intervals between services.

Because oil changes are considered routine maintenance services, we can also rotate your tires, check your battery, brakes, windshield wipers, and more, in order to ensure your ride is functioning at peak levels!

Though there is no exact answer as to when you should have your oil changed, you can expect to have it done every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. This will depend on how often and far you drive.

How Do I Know When I Need an Oil Change?

Luckily, knowing when it’s time to have your oil changed is pretty easy. Some newer cars will let you check your oil levels on the infotainment screen, or a message can pop up to alert you when your oil is low. And of course, you can always look out for the oil light illuminating on your dashboard.

Here are a few other signs you can look out for:

• Burning smells: your car should never emit a burning smell for any reason. If you notice this coming through the cabin, have your oil checked immediately.
• Thick exhaust: some exhaust is common, but if it’s thick, that could mean your oil is low and needs to be changed.
• Rattling while idle or in motion: if you’re driving on a smooth road and your car is rattling like it would if you were on an uneven or bumpy road, that might mean your oil levels are low. Similarly, if your car is shaking or rattling while it’s idling, have one of our technicians look at it.
